Reno's Premiere Advanced Yoga Study & Teacher Trainings

We have always been passionate about learning at Yoga Loka! We are excited about exemplar classic and new opportunities to grow your practice and teaching: we now offer three fantastic teacher training programs! Together our long established and renowned 200 hour program, our exciting new advanced teacher 300 hour program (added to the 200 hour program makes 500 total hours) and our first-in-Northern-Nevada Prenatal teacher program are Yoga Loka University. All three programs are registered with the Yoga Alliance and adhere to YA's rigorous guidelines for Registered Yoga Schools.

Prerequisite: Graduation from a Yoga Alliance Approved 200-Hour Training Required

You know, from your 200 hour teacher training, the basics of giving your students an intelligent and effective yoga class. Now it’s time to take your teaching to the next level.

We are pleased to offer you an expanded opportunity to boost your education and certification to a higher level. Custom designed for those who currently teach yoga, though valuable for those who don't, the 300-hour professional yoga training invites you to explore the deeper aspects of Yoga, with a focus on meditation, yoga philosophy, pranayama, asana, yoga therapy, refinement of teaching skills, communication and personal spiritual growth.

RYT 500 Logo

Taking the 300 hour YTT at Yoga Loka is similar to attending graduate school following a Bachelor's degree: it provides deeper and broader continuing education that builds on the cohesive and comprehensive 200 hour program, and it is modular (workshop based) in format. The 300 hour YTT is an additional 300 hours of instruction in the form of workshops, class series, mentorship, independent study and regular training meetings with other trainees and me. Unlike the 200 hour program, the regular training meetings do NOT provide the bulk of the training hours; instead most training hours will be obtained by attending the workshops at Yoga Loka that are approved to provide 300 hour TT credit. The training meetings are intended to promote community among 300 hour trainees, give you the opportunity to learn from each other and share your passions and expertise, and to provide a platform for study of yoga philosophy, history, teaching technique and ethics.

Approximately 90 hours of the required 300 will come from monthly trainee meetings; the other 210 hours will come from attending workshops, class series and retreats that you choose from the list of 300 hour TT approved offerings.  Once completed, the combination of a Yoga Alliance approved YTT200 training plus Yoga Loka's Yoga Alliance approved YTT300 training means you are eligible to register with the Yoga Alliance as RYT500.

About the YTT300 Program

Yoga Loka's 300 hour training is modular in format and designed to be completed in 18 to 36 months. Each of the individual modules stands alone as a complete experience. Most modules are weekend formats held at Yoga Loka. Some modules will be one evening a week for 6-8 weeks at Yoga Loka. Also designed into the curriculum are residential retreat opportunities (modules) that will be held in a lovely setting in or near Reno.

The program is designed to be flexible: there are no firm annual start and end dates (that is, you can join the training program any time), and workshops providing 300 hour TT credit are offered year round. Some of these workshops are considered required courses (that is, you must attend this workshop at some point during the course of your 300 hour training) and some are elective hours (that is, you can choose the elective workshop topics that resonate most with you as you build your individual 300 hour training program). Please note that workshops labelled 'required' are usually offered annually, so if you missed a required workshop this year, never fear: you can pick it up later in your program. We expect that you would spend approximately 3 years completing the 300 hour TT, but again since it is modular and easy to personalize, if you take a 300 hour TT eligible workshop at least once a month you could finish in as little as 18 months. Or, if something comes up and you need to slow your training pace, we can work with you to extend the completion time.

This modular, workshop oriented nature allows you to learn at your own pace and customize your program, choosing topics of specialization you are most interested in while obtaining comprehensive training in the following areas of curriculum:

1. Techniques, Training and Practice: includes practices for special populations such as prenatal yoga, yoga therapy, intermediate-advanced Asana, Sanskrit language, pranayama, practical meditation, and retreat.

2. Teaching Methodology: includes safe and effective adjustments, communication skills, verbal and non-verbal cuing, principles of demonstration, observation and assisting, group class management, private instruction, teaching styles, qualities of a teacher, the student learning process; plus mentorship and assistant teaching opportunities with lead instructors.

3. Anatomy and Physiology: includes biomechanics of asana, subtle anatomy and the Chakra system, individual skeletal variations and their influence on the expression of asana, pelvic floor and asana, mechanics of the shoulder girdle, and more.

4. Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle, business and Ethics for Yoga Teachers: includes independent and group study of yoga history, branches of yoga, practical business of being a successful teacher, and business and personal ethics for yoga teachers.

5. Practicum: includes practice teaching, mentorship opportunities, Karma Sadhana project (service to the community), and preparing and presenting a workshop.

6. Required Reading (non-contact hours)
a.  Yoga Philosophy and History by Georg Feurestein  Complete all end of chapter self-tests. Choose at least two Classroom Work/Homework scenarios and share your ideas in writing). It can be helpful to get together with other students to discuss before writing.
